The USS ANNAPOLIS Association is Growing
Since the Association’s inception over 13 years ago, it has grown to 315
members as of October 2011. For those of you that have spread the word,
the Association thanks you for your efforts.
In the beginning and before the Internet was widely used, the scuttlebutt went out by friends spreading the word by mouth, letters and phones calls. However, as of late, the Internet has provided the forum to nearly double its size to what it has become in just a few short years.
Joining the Roles of the ANNAPOLIS Associaton is Easy
Joining the Annapolis Association is easy. Simply check this web site for instructions, answer a few questions for verification and submit your application. Your name will appear on the Internet and you'll get all future communications that go out.
The Benefits of Joining the Association
Joining the Annapolis Association is primarily to foster and renew friendships. Members not only have access to public information that so many have used to find old shipmates, but also provides access to information that is not made public.
Members also have access to information such as addresses and telephone numbers. Other information may be available if the existing member provides additional to share. The members of the association maintain and restrict some information due to privacy concerns.
2011 Reunion a Success
The USS Annapolis (AGMR-1) Association Reunion was held in Norfolk, Va
and was another successful event. The final two days consisted of a red
carpet tour of the Naval Station and a banquet to honor Captain John Rowan,
the Annapolis' first command officer...
Reunion Toured Norfolk Naval Station
The 2011 USS Annapolis Reunion toured the Norfolk Naval Station on the
14th of October and went beyond all expectations and was due to the US
Navy rolling out the red carpet. The tour begin at the US Naval Station
with LT Lauren McCabe serving as the official host and guide for the Annapolis
Association crew and their guests. MC1 Joshua Wahl was the official Navy
photographer to cover the events of the day and the banquet the next evening.
The Annapolis’ Associations first tour stop on the Naval station was at the Naval Computer Telecommunications Area Master Master Station, Atlantic (NCTAMS LANT) to see how communications had changed since the 1960’s era. Hosted by Captain Danelle Barrett of NCTAMS, the Annapolis crew was provided an outstanding tour of the communications center with all walking away with an appreciation of how communications has evolved.
The tour group was provided refreshments upon arrival and allowed to see
the new uniforms sailors wear in today’s Navy. In addition, four sailors
provided a detailed briefing on how their careers progressed and how training
is administrated. Mr. Don Owens, senior civilian and a retired Naval officer
at NCTAMS, provided a comparison on the differences between communications
of the 1960’s to the technical and work flow process aspects of the 21th
century. He also provided a tour of the technical division, message center
and other areas of today’s communications technologies

Having Trouble with the Web Site?
The Webmaster of the USS Annapolis Association has received email within the last year from three crew members experiencing problems accessing the web site.
If you have experienced problems and have not contacted the Webmaster,
then the information below may help.
---Problem #1:
Words were overlapping and links did not match up.
---Solution #1:
The Internet Explorer was found with non-default viewing settings. To set
in default viewing settings, select from the IE navagation bar "View"
then "Text Size" and clicking "Medium."
---Problem #2:
The navagation bar does not work.
---Solution #2:
You must have Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser Verson 6 or higher with
the default browser settings. If using a browser older than IE Verison
6, the navagation bar will not work .
Due to the growing popularity of Google Chrome as an alternative to MS
Internet Explorer, the Webmaster is considering making internal changes
to allow the web site take take advantage of Chrome's features. In the
meantime, the USS Annapolis Association web site is only compatible with
MS Internet Explorer Version 6 and above.

What You Need to Vew the Web Site
The USS Annapolis Association web site is developed and tested with Microsoft
Internet Explorer Version 6, 7, and 8 using Microsoft XP, Vista, and Windows
7 operating systems.
The Association web site is developed using HTML, CSS, Javascript, Microsoft
Media Player, and Perl.
Periodically the Association web site is verified by several computer consultants
experienced in web site development.
If you use a browser that is not defined above, you will get unpredictable
and undesirable results.


Association Needs Your Photos
The USS Annapolis Association is always looking to expand its photo gallery
to all and to maintain the history of the Annapolis. However, it takes
your photos to do so. If you have digital photos you wish to share, then
complete this
page.
If your photos are not in digital form, simply take your digital camera and snap your picture(s) as close as the camera allows without getting out of focus. Then
submit your photos or email them to the
webmaster.
After lunch at the Breezy Point Officers Club, the Annapolis Reunion members
were treated to a tour of the new USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7). Greeted by the
ships executive officer, Captain Grady Banister, a tour was conducted of
the amphibious decks, the ships medical & dental departments, damage
control, machine shop, the ships public affairs spaces, and living quarters
with a final tour stop on the ships flight deck. Each area was presented
by various enlisted and officers of the ship’s crew.
2011 Reunion Honors Captain John Rowan
The high-light of the 2011 Reunion was the banquet the final night. It
begin with BM3 Cody Sheppard piping Captain Rowan on-board with eight members
of the original crew serving as “side boys.” After a short social period
the meal was served followed by guest speaker Captain Danelle Barrett (NCTAMS)
presenting Captain Rowan a gift that represented the present day NCTAMS
and then presented him a new uniform cap embroidered with the Annapolis’
name. The evening’s program was closed with Captain Rowan being presented
a special cake in his honor. The remainder of the evening was filled with
comradery and reminiscing with the Captain.

Captain Rowan was piped onboard by BM3 Sheppard in his honor at the beginning
of the banquet.
